The Screw Driver — a home services marketplace, customer and partner side

An Urban Company-style home services platform: eleven service categories, a customer app on both stores, a separate partner app that professionals sign up and take jobs in, and the booking, dispatch and payout machinery joining the two.

The brief

What we were asked to solve.

The Screw Driver (TSD Solutions Private Limited) set out to do for household repair what the large aggregators did for beauty and cleaning — but across a much wider spread of categories, from an electrician to pet care.

A marketplace like this is two products, not one. Customers need a booking experience that takes under a minute. Professionals need an app that tells them what work is available, lets them accept it, and pays them predictably. Both had to ship, and both had to stay in step.

The hard parts

Where this project was genuinely difficult.

CHALLENGE 01Eleven categories, one booking flow

An AC repair, a pet grooming session and a pest control treatment have very different inputs. Building eleven bespoke flows would have been unmaintainable; we needed one flow that configures itself per category.

CHALLENGE 02Supply is the hard side

A services marketplace fails on supply, not demand. The partner app had to be good enough that professionals open it daily — onboarding, job feed, earnings, all of it.

CHALLENGE 03Slots that reflect reality

Availability depends on which professionals are free, where they are, and how long the previous job runs. A calendar that offers slots nobody can service destroys trust on the first booking.

CHALLENGE 04Two languages, one interface

A large share of both customers and professionals work in Hindi. Language switching had to be complete, not a half-translated afterthought.

CHALLENGE 05Store compliance

Both app stores now require account-deletion, cancellation and anti-discrimination policies to be reachable in-product, not buried on a website.

What we built

The product, feature by feature.

01

Customer experience

  • Location picker that gates the catalogue to what is actually serviceable in that area
  • Eleven service categories: Electrician, Plumber, AC Repair, Carpenter, Cleaning, Home Appliances, Computer & Printer, All Pet Care, Zoom Wash, Home Wellness Services and Pest Control
  • A single configurable booking flow: choose location and service → book a time slot → the team arrives
  • Live booking status and job tracking
  • Ratings and reviews tied to the individual professional, not just the brand
  • Hindi and English throughout, switchable at any point
  • Cancellation, refund, anti-discrimination and account-deletion flows built in-product
02

Partner (vendor) app

  • Self-serve registration — a professional can join and be verified without a phone call
  • Document upload and verification status tracking
  • Job feed filtered by skill, category and service area
  • Accept, start, complete and close-out flow with proof of work
  • Earnings dashboard with per-job breakdown and payout history
  • Availability and working-hours control, feeding straight back into customer slots
03

Operations back end

  • Admin console for catalogue, pricing and service-area configuration
  • Dispatch and assignment logic matching jobs to available, qualified professionals
  • Booking, cancellation and refund management
  • Professional onboarding queue with verification steps
  • Reporting across bookings, categories, areas and partner performance
Approach

How we ran it.

STEP 01

Two-sided mapping

We mapped the customer journey and the professional journey side by side, and designed the points where they meet — slot offer, arrival, completion, payment — first.

STEP 02

A configurable catalogue

Rather than eleven hard-coded flows, we built one flow driven by per-category configuration, so a new service is a data change, not a release.

STEP 03

Ship supply first

The partner app and onboarding went live ahead of the customer launch, so there was real capacity on day one.

STEP 04

Launch and expand

Customer apps to both stores, then category and service-area expansion managed from the admin console.

DELIVEREDWhat shipped

  • A marketplace running on both sides — customers on iOS, Android and web, professionals on their own app.
  • New services and service areas launched from configuration rather than from a code release.
  • Self-serve professional onboarding, removing the manual bottleneck on supply growth.
  • Full bilingual coverage and in-app policy compliance for both stores.
