The brief

What we were asked to solve.

Excel Educational Institution is one of the most established names for CA, CS, CMA and commerce coaching in Chhattisgarh, teaching everything from CA Foundation through CA Final, CS EET and Executive, CMA Foundation and Intermediate, and Class XI-XII commerce.

The brief was to take that classroom to students across India without diluting it: live interactive lectures, recorded lectures for revision, the weekly test series the institute is known for, and the attendance-and-results visibility parents expect. On whatever device a student owns — which, for a student studying eight hours a day, usually means a laptop as well as a phone.

The hard parts

Where this project was genuinely difficult.

CHALLENGE 01Four platforms, one curriculum

Windows and macOS desktop clients alongside iOS and Android, all staying in sync on progress, purchases and entitlements.

CHALLENGE 02Protecting expensive content

Recorded lecture libraries are the institute's core asset. They had to be viewable offline for students on unreliable connections and still protected against redistribution.

CHALLENGE 03Live teaching that survives Indian bandwidth

A live class has to degrade gracefully rather than drop, and doubt-solving has to work even when video does not.

CHALLENGE 04Assessment at scale

Weekly tests, mock exams and performance tracking across thousands of students, with results fast enough to be useful in the next class.

CHALLENGE 05Parents are a third user

The institute promises attendance and results visibility to parents. That is a separate audience with its own access rules.

Approach

How we ran it.

STEP 01

Model the institute, not a generic LMS

Course levels, groups and modules were modelled exactly as CA, CS and CMA structure them, so the product speaks the students' language.

STEP 02

Shared core, native shells

One content and entitlement core, with native clients on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android over the top.

STEP 03

Protect and cache

Secure playback with controlled offline access, tuned for students on inconsistent home connections.

STEP 04

Assessment and scale

Test series, analytics and parent reporting added, then the platform scaled to a student base now past 10,000.
