A workforce product for teams that do not sit at desks: attendance, task assignment and live location tracking on iOS and Android, with an HR admin console behind it.
Beam Time was built for the manager whose team is spread across a city — sales reps, service engineers, site supervisors. The question that product answers is simple and constant: who is working, on what, and where.
It needed to do that without turning into surveillance theatre. The design brief was explicitly to make the data useful to the employee as well as the employer.
Continuous GPS drains a phone by lunchtime and the employee turns it off. Tracking had to be adaptive — frequent when moving, sparse when still.
Geo-fenced check-in stops fraud but frustrates honest staff when GPS drifts. The rules needed tolerance and an exception path a manager can approve.
One is a to-do list, the other is a map. Putting both in one app without it feeling like two apps took real interface work.
Location tracking has to be transparent about when it is on, visible to the employee, and bounded by working hours.
We started by pinning down exactly what the organisation needed to know — and, deliberately, what it did not.
The location strategy was prototyped and measured on real devices before anything was built around it.
